The Rolls Royce has been synonymous with the image of luxury for many years. And of course the famous "Spirit of Ecstasy" Flying Lady is the hood ornament that comes to mind immediately when thinking about Rolls Royce.
Originally designed by Charles Robert Sykes, Rolls Royce had the Spirit of Ecstasy designed to be able to retract into the body of the car to not only prevent theft but also to prevent injury in case of an accident. The driver can operate this via a button inside the car or alternatively the mascot automatically retracts not only when the car alarm is set but also if a would-be thief tries to steal it,the mascot detects movement through a sensor at the base.

The Jaguar hood ornament or car mascot must be one of the most recognisable hood ornaments around. With it's sleek leaping jaguar cat no vintage or classic Jaguar is complete without its car mascot atop its hood.
